Sr. Purchase Officer / Assistant Manager Purchase – Engineering / Manufacturing

Job Summary:

The Purchase Officer will be responsible for the end-to-end procurement of raw materials, machinery components, and fabrication items to support the manufacturing process. The role involves effective purchase planning to meet production TAT, vendor development, cost optimization, and compliance with material standards and engineering specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement & Planning:

• Plan and procure raw materials/ jobwork/ subcontractor iteam (SS/MS, flanges, pipes, welding items, etc.) as per production requirements.
• Ensure timely availability of materials to meet manufacturing TAT (Turnaround Time).
• Prepare purchase orders (POs) and manage transactions in the ERP system.
• Track purchase orders, delivery schedules, and material receipts.

Vendor Management:

• Handle vendor inspections and material rejections in conjunction with the quality team.
• Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable vendors for materials; negotiate with vendors for pricing and engineering items.
• Collect and compare competitive quotations to ensure the best pricing and quality.
• Negotiate with suppliers to achieve cost-saving targets while maintaining quality standards.
• Maintain vendor records, performance data, and ensure vendor compliance with company policies.

Technical & Material Expertise:

• Sound knowledge of machinery components, welding machinery, and CNC machining processes.
• Basic understanding of ASME codes and piping material standards.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication and engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with material testing certificates, inspection documentation, and quality standards.

ERP & Supplier Documentation:

• Create and maintain purchase orders, material codes, and vendor details in the ERP system.
• Coordinate with accounts for invoice processing and payment tracking.
• Maintain proper documentation for audit and traceability.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of engineering raw materials (SS/MS, flanges, fittings, pipes, welding consumables, etc.).
• Good understanding of procurement cycle and supply chain processes.
• Technical knowledge of CNC/VMC machining, fabrication, and process flow.
• Negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office (Excel, Word).
• Detail-oriented with effective planning and multitasking ability.

Qualification & Experience:

Qualification: B.E. Mechanical Engineering
Experience: 4–5 years in engineering / fabrication / manufacturing industry procurement in sheet metal.
